Not Waterproof

My son has been wearing these for 3 weeks in mostly dry weather and today came home and his feet were completely soaked through. On the past 2 occasions where there was very light rain or wet grass, his feet got wet then as well. Like someone else mentioned, the shoes are coming apart at the seam where it meets the sole. I’m really disappointed since he had a similar type of Merrell (we couldn’t find the exact one this year) and wore them for 6 months in PNW rainy season without ever getting his feet wet AND they never pulled apart near the sole. These should be pulled or at least not marketed as waterproof. I’ve submitted a defect claim it’s so bad.

Not child durable

Review: We purchased this pair of shoes for our three-year-old to use as outdoor shoes. They look great, and he loved the nonslip soles, which provided good grip and confidence while playing. However, after just a couple of weeks, the rubber band lace broke. Since it’s not a traditional lace, we couldn’t tie it or fix it, leaving the shoes essentially useless. I really hope Merrell invests in making their kids’ shoes more durable. While the design is appealing, durability is critical for children’s footwear, especially for active use. This experience was disappointing, especially given the brand’s reputation.

Do not last

We used to love love love Merrell shoes. But the last few shoes we have ordered, for myself and for my kids, do not last. These were no exception. My daughter has had them for 6 months and the Velcro strip buckle ripped off. This wasn’t 6 months of daily wear either, this was six months of relatively light wear since most of those months were in winter where she wore her snow boots and changed into crocs at school. The most wear she got out of them was hiking easy trails. Its a shame that the quality isn't what it used to be, Merrell was one of my go-to brands for hiking shoes and kid’s shoes.

not water resistant

I bought these because they were supposedly waterproof. After 15 minutes of walking through dewy grass, first time out of the box, the inside of the shoes and my socks were damp. If I had walked any distance my feet would have been soaked. The grass wasn't even high, I had mowed it a couple of days before. The whole point of my having these shoes was to walk my dog around my lawns when the grass was damp. I am puzzled and confused why these are considered waterproof. No puddles, streams, no wear on the shoes, and they could not survive fifteen minutes walking through short dewy grass.

Not waterproof :(

I’m disappointed with these shoes. My daughter had a pair of little kid Moab Speed sneakers that were great for keeping her feet dry in wet grass and mud and I was looking forward to these being the same. I noticed that the material was different (these are more like a standard sneaker mesh) but assumed they would have a reliable waterproof membrane. I like the shoes, but she just spent a couple hours running around in wet grass (no submersion in streams or puddles) and her socks and the inside of the shoes are damp. And she’s only been wearing the shoes for a couple months and they’re otherwise in great condition, so I don’t think it’s an issue of being too worn down. Not at all what I expected from something described by a reputable outdoor brand as “seam sealed waterproof.”

Decent hybrid shoe with some issues

Got these for my almost 4-year old for school. He beats up his shoes and gets mud on them from time to time. The quality is nice and sturdy but still has a casual feel to it. Unfortunately, the opening is a bit too small/narrow. I purchased the wide version since my son has frog feet, but I struggle putting these on. Once his feet are in, they fit fine. The toe box is fine. It’s the opening that is too small and can only be spread open so much. The Trail Quest, for example, is much easier to slip on. The bungee lace is also nonfunctional and is wearing thin already. It’s going to break any day now, and he’s only worn these a handful of times. They appear to be sewn into a loop hole on the tongue, which defeats the entire purpose. I hope that the next version takes these points into consideration as these have the potential to be a really good shoe.

They’re ok, not great

We’ve had these shoes for about a month now and they are splitting at the seam that connects the shoe to the bottom. For these to be advertised as waterproof but then crack so easily makes me think there’s no chance he can wear these anywhere it’s wet. Otherwis, they’re fairly resilient, much more so than the Skechers we burn through in a few weeks. At least these kept their tread.

Great shoe but not durable

My daughter and I were initially so happy with these shoes. They fit well and were comfortable right out of the box. She was able to walk, run, and hike without any break in period. Great grip. However, after 1 month of typical use for a hiking shoe, both shoes are coming apart at the seams like other reviewers have mentioned. Very disappointed after a great first impression.
