sturdy + needs to be broken in

got these in size 8 (given that the new balance 574 fit me perfectly in size 8). At first fit I thought that I should've gotten the 8.5. the material (leather?) is certainly stiffer than that of the 574 so the first 2 days were spent breaking them in, and they are much more comfortable now, though still a little small, so if you fluctuate a .5 between sizes you may want to go for the bigger option. The support is great but not like walking on a cloud (probably for the better). It's a heavy shoe for heavy work and you may feel that heaviness for a bit if your exercise is closer to running. I also had to relace the shoes to give my feet more space.

Comfortable and stable

I have trouble finding good sneakers in a wide width. New Balance has a good variety, which I appreciate a lot. Saw these and gave them a try. Very nice coverage... kind of a warm sneaker... good for walking in the colder weather. Been wearing them for a week now and now that they are broken in a bit, I'm liking them even more. I think they would be a little hot for summer, as they don't seem to breathe much. I noticed my feet were a bit hot in them indoors. Perfect find for Fall, Winter and Spring though. Very nice and stable sole/footbed for walking, which I do a lot of. Would buy again and would recommend for anyone who walks a lot. Good looking too!

608v5

I have worn these shoes for literally years. I bought them in stores until they became unavailable a few years back. Then I believe they were mostly the 608v3. They dc’d those. I have to order the v5 online when I can afford the higher prices. The last pair I bought new in 2022, I kept in the closet until recently. I had an opportunity to wear them several times. There is no way this is a wide shoe, or the same shoe I’ve always bought. So uncomfortable and so deformed. I’m done as of this time. Too much time has passed to exchange or return, so that’s on me. Never again. Someone messed up a perfectly great shoe.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Not a good fit for me

I bought the 608v5 shoes to replace an old pair of New Balance cross trainers that are no longer made. Unfortunately these were not a good replacement as they were much heavier, the toe box was narrower in relation to the midfoot (ie. the midfoot was a bit too wide for me but the toe box was a but snug. You can see that the toe box on these shoes is weirdly pointy (which is not how most feet are shaped!). I also found the cuff around the ankle to be too stiff which made it uncomfortable to lace the shoes tightly (for exercising). I also found the Candied Violet colorway to sadly be more muted and not as bright as the pictures online. I returned them and the hunt continues!

Didn't work for me

I really wanted these to work for me. They were really cute, and they seemed to be the closest to some of the ""classic"" New Balance shoes I used to wear. But as soon as I tried them on, I knew they weren't going to work. There is a thick seam right over where my bunion is on my left foot, and I knew that spelled trouble. In addition, the memory foam in the insoles has a very strong chemical smell to it. I had forgotten what that smelled like, but remembered when I had ordered a memory foam topper for my bed once, I had the same problem. I had to return them due to these 2 issues.

Very comfortable and solid shoe.

I bought this NB because I wanted a leather outer for daily walks. This shoe is cushy but solid and a reasonable price point. The heel and ankle feel tight and secure. I also like the two tabbed laces across the arch for easier tightening and less lace slip. However, the toe box goes very wide at the bottom two laces and then a long wide toe box without an additional lace slot. On my foot, it means i can't tighten up the toe box which make me feel less secure. If i pull the bottom two laces tight then it pinches me at the lower arch instead of the ball of my foot or lower.

100% YES

Truly such comfy shoes for such a reasonable price. The memory foam soles are a game changer and the foot/toe bed is the perfect width so my ingrown toenails don't get irritated. I have a medium/high arch and I've never had any arch pain in these either. I've used these every morning for mixed training at the gym (walking, pilates, weights, etc.) for the past 3 weeks since getting and I'm still very happy with my purchase. And lastly, not that style always matters when it comes to working out/foot health but I really love how classic these look. You can never go wrong with NB!

Mixed feelings

I recently purchased a pair of New Balance shoes, and at first, I was quite pleased. The design is sleek, the cushioning feels comfortable, and they offer great support for everyday wear. Whether walking around town or going for a light jog, they seemed to deliver on both comfort and performance. However, after wearing them yesterday, I unfortunately sprained my ankle. This has left me with mixed feelings. While the shoes initially felt stable, I’m now questioning whether they provide enough ankle support, especially for uneven terrain or extended use. It’s possible that my injury was just an unlucky incident rather than a flaw in the shoe, but it does make me reconsider whether they are the right fit for me in the long term.
