Orthotics don't fit in the heel
When I ordered my first Moab Wide Widths, they were perfect right out of the box. They were all I wore for 7 years. But the last couple years my feet have hurt more and more. I've been to doctors and tried many things. Only this week did it occur to me that the heel of the Moab is now too narrow to accomodate my orthotics. My toes are pushed into the toe of the shoe. The insole is about 1/4 to 3/8 inch forward on the sole of the shoe, so the support of the sole and the orthotic are not working together. Unfortunately, I just bought new Moabs and wore them outside before I realized this was the problem. I suppose I can donate them.

High performance under bad weather
I bought this shoes for a trip in Costa Rica. During the trip there were raining everyday, and the trail around a volcano was so muddy, even more raining while hiking. Although the trail was so rough condition, I hiked very comfortably because the shoes resisted any wet mud. After the hours hiking under raining, the inside of shoes were not fully wet, next day the shoes were dried and no weird smell.
Another favorite part of this shoes is that they have an option for wide feet. A lot of shoes for Western people are very narrow, but this wide version one fit my wide feet perfectly!
I would recommend this shoes to anybody.

Enter: Moab 3

My Moab 3 Wide Width shoes took me to the Inca Trail, in Peru, and did not disappoint. I fell in love with Merrell, after purchasing a pair of Merrell walking shoes, a few years ago, for a trip to Ireland. Since then, those shoes have traveled everywhere with me. For my most recent trip, I needed a sturdy hiking shoe that could take me many miles on a rugged trail. Enter: Moab 3. I like the wide width to wear with my thicker wool socks, and I appreciate the quality of the materials and workmanship. The shoes are lightweight, and the color options are great! I recommend Moab 3 Wide Width Hiking Shoes!

OK, but early signs of wear
These are pretty nice shoes, but I noticed threads coming loose and the mesh material fraying after only a handful of wears. Hopefully it does not become a structural issue and only affects the appearance.
Also I feel that the placement of the top lace doesn't allow for adjusting the opening quite as securely as I would like. Perhaps it's because I have a wider forefoot and regular ankle/heel size (the most common foot anatomy) but this shoe is just designed for a wide foot all along. Wide width wasn't available in any stores so I had to order online otherwise I might not have purchased them.

Jungle hiking in Thailand
The shoes held up really well, I took them caving in muddy caves in Thailand. I trekked through the jungle in them for about 1 month, They were wet and muddy quite often. What often happens with shoes in this environment is that the glue holding the bottom to the sneaker falls apart. This did not happen to the Merrell's. Unfortunately they were so covered with mud, I did not feel that it was safe to bring them back to the USA even if I washed them. For fear that they may contain a foreign pathogen, I had to abandon my trusted shoes in a foreign land.

Versatile no matter where I hike!
I am on my third pair of Moab 3 hiking shoes. I have flat feet, and one shorter leg than the other, but I use a lift in the shoe for my shorter leg, and took out the higher arch footbed in the shoe for my longer leg. This has always worked well for me, and I don't even want to try another brand. I am 78 years old and hike in varied terrain (AZ mountains to Lake Michigan shores and dunes, rocky and sandy coastlines on the coastlines, and always feel secure with my footing. Thank you, Merrell, for this excellent shoe!

Absolutely LOVE this shoe!

So glad they offered this hiking sneaker in "wide"! My foot is about a B-B/C width, so what I would consider normal width. But the "wide" option fits just perfectly, and per other reviews, I think the "normal" width would feel too narrow. The shoe overall is GREAT! I've tried some other Merrell styles, but none had the Moab 3's perfect amount of stiffness, comfort (no break in period needed!), and arch support. Both sturdy/durable yet not heavy like some hiking sneakers.
Like another reviewer mentioned--when first trying on the shoe, the arch seemed slightly too far back/in the wrong place. BUT, upon using it, the arch ended up moving to exactly the right place, sort of molding to my feet. I couldn't be happier with this sneaker! And the "falcon" color is so beautiful :)

Very disappointing
I've been mourning my older Merrells that are worn out and not made the same anymore. I almost cried when I packed up these Moab 3s for return. My feet tried so hard to love them like I used to. But the squarish heel did not feel good under my heels and the horribly hard insert is unbearable. Merrell used to put Ortholite inserts in these styles, and I still have an 11 yr old one in my bike shoes, which still feels good. Also, the exaggerated arch doesn't feel natural at all and hits too far back now. The biggest flaw Merrell has is not making these with the Q Form, as in the old days. Only things still good about the Moab is outsole grip, mesh for hotter months and offering the Wide width. But walking comfort is gone for me, can't even tell there are air cells in the bottom.
No, I do not recommend this product.
