Functional comfort.

I have recently needed to change my shoe choices to accomodate my aging body (and feet). I have worn New Balance before with few complaints. This leather 608 is a good value for an everyday shoe, with moderate cushioning, good rear/heel structure and a wide toe box (13/2E). A little heavy, a lot like my old court shoes, and not sure how they woud hold up in cross training, jogging or impact sports, but this shoe is functional, stylish and comfortable for most daily adult wear and tear. I like the sole design and composition, and the moderate heel "drop" (vs super foam on so many shoes now, so you "feel" the ground, aiding balance).

Yes, I recommend this product.

Quality Gone Downhill

Until now I've always been happy with NB "training" style shoes with a leather upper. After buying the 608's and wearing them for a week I noticed the design and materials feel cheaper than the many previous NB shoes I've had. The leather is thinner. The padding is thinner. For the first time I felt like I needed to "break in" my NB's and my feet hurt while I was doing it. I'm not a big fan of the mesh covered ventilation slots. They let in cold air and water which makes this shoe less worthy for outdoor use. Why cut a hole in a leather upper? DSW is a reliable retailer and delivered ahead of schedule, no problem there, but the shoe itself was disappointing.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Good fit + Comfort = Great shoes

I have long, wide, old feet -- hard to fit. I sent two completely different brands back before I got my New Balance shoes. NEW BALANCE TO THE RESCUE!!! These fit so well that taking my dog on 2-mile walks is so pleasant that my feet feel as well when we finish as when we started. The cushioning is quite sufficient for me, and the toe box is wide enough so that the sides of the show don't rub on my feet. The first time I put the shoes on, they were stiff and just Ok. BUT after three walks in them, they limbered up, and I now rate them as the best fitting, most comfortable tennis shoies I have owned -- ever.

NB Fan Has Returned From Nike

I have been a NB fan for years but had moved to Nike simply because they had stock in the store the last few times I shopped for workout shoes. Found these online last year and have since bought my second pair. Glad to be back with NB. The shoes are comfortable with plenty of support. I find the fit better than Nike because the toe area seems to be more spacious, especially when new. I am able to start right in with these working out, no need to slowly break them in. Highly recommend. I would give five stars since they probably aren't fashionable, but I use at the gym and that means nothing to me.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Hard soles, go back to making like before 2016

What happened to me is the destruction of the New Balance 608 cross trainer I've worn for years to play racquetball and wear daily. I bought 8 pair in 2016 and they were excellent. Then in 2023 when I needed to buy more, the new V5 versions had hard soles under the inserts. HORRIBLE feeling. Had to send them back and have been searching for high quality shoes in different brands ever since. And feet now have nerve issues. Fresh foam or too much cush does not work. And lacks stability. NB needs to go back to making their cross trainers with some give to the sole under the insert. The way they used to. Make them like that again, and also make the new type AND SEE WHICH ONE WINS!!

Team NB
Thank you for sharing such detailed feedback. We’re sorry to hear the 608v5 felt too hard under the insole and that softer cushioning hasn’t provided the stability you need. Our Customer Care team can help with next steps and recommend firmer, more stable cross-trainers or alternatives that better match the feel you relied on.

Comfortable for standing all day!

I bought the New Balance 608 V5 Training shoes because I needed a solid black, non-slip sole I could use at work. I have always had a problem finding shoes because I have extra wide feet, am overweight and have diabetes. I had to order these shoes in the store and I expected I would have to return them like every other shoe I have had to order elsewhere. I was pleasantly surprised. Not only did they fit, but they are also comfortable! I’m on my feet all day and when I get home, I no longer rush to take my shoes off because my feet are killing me. The cushioning in them is wonderful and they’ve really helped with my feet and leg pain and tiredness. I will definitely be buying more of these!

Yes, I recommend this product.

Reliable

My husband loves these shoes. I have bought several of the same model and these are the new version of the same shoe. Fit is great, so I can buy with confidence online and he doesn't have to go in and try different shoes on!

Great walking shoes for stability

Very stable walking shoes, that are true to size. I purchased these after years of wearing NB running shoes, and as I ease into my 60s with white hair, I thought these were the answer to a few niggling feet issues. Well, these are not the answer, at least for me. The soles do not conform, or even bend very freely. They make walking laborious, as though I have a board attached to the bottom of the shoes. so, if you or someone you are very close to has serious stability issues, then these are the shoes for that person. Inners are very comfortable. If standing is difficult, or taking steps seems precarious, then these are the ticket. Until that point is reached however, look for something more flexible.
